First years in Farley will live in doubles, triples, and quads. Each room has a sink, vanity mirror, curtains, recycling bin, and wastebasket. The rooms are also furnished with a wardrobe, a four-drawer dresser, a desk with an overhead light, desk chair, and a twin XL bed for each resident living in the room. The furniture is "modular," which means that you can stack it together to save space. Click through the slideshow to find your room on the floor plan and /or see some pictures of example rooms!
Other Spaces in Farley
While you will spend time in your room, there are plenty of other spaces in Farley to talk about! Here's a quick review of the other spaces available to you in Farley:
Bathrooms: There are two large bathrooms on each floor in Farley. We suggest that you bring a shower caddie and a robe to simplify the walk between your room and shower. A pair of shower shoes can’t hurt either--but we promise Farley girls are very hygienic.
Kitchen: Our Farley kitchen was completely redone during the summer of 2014! For those days when you're feeling like Betty Crocker, you can engage your culinary skills in the kitchen. There always seems to be a Farley girl whipping up something in there. Many adventurous Finest use it to make baked goods or even a meal. It is equipped with two ovens, stovetops, a fridge, and microwave. The kitchen is also supplied with basic appliances and utensils, but sometimes cookie sheets are in short supply. Over breaks, we've had Farley dinners where several Farley girls cooked together and feasted.
Study Areas: Mom and Dad will be overjoyed to hear this one: Farley has one of the largest study areas of any dorm on campus. All study areas are located in the basement. We have a silent study lounge, which is furnished with lots of study carrels and desks, a couch, and comfy chairs. We also have four smaller study rooms, all perfect for those times you don't want to study in your room and when it is too cold to walk to the library.
Lounges: The Middle Room (a 24 hour lounge!), located in the basement, is a haven for many Farley girls on those study breaks, the couch potatoes watching the flat screen TV, and those just lounging around studying or reading. You can simply socialize, study with a group, or grab a snack from the vending machines. It is also the location to watch away football games with other Farley girls. The Pop Farley Room is also located in the basement across the hallway from the mailboxes. It has comfortable chairs and couches plus a flat-screen T.V. It's a good place to go if you prefer a quieter atmosphere, since the Middle Room can get pretty hectic at times! Each floor also has its own lounge with a TV and couches!
Farley Chapel: Mass is celebrated on Sunday nights at 10PM and Wednesday nights at 9PM in our chapel. Our chapel is located right across the hall from the rector's room on the first floor. Farley women help organize the music, sing in the choir, and serve as lectors or extraordinary ministers. This provides a great opportunity to celebrate our faith together. Our chapel was completely renovated in the winter of 2020-2021, and we can't wait for you to see it in person!
Laundry: The laundry room is located in the basement of Farley. It has seven washers and eight dryers, two ironing boards, drying racks, and a big sink to hand-wash clothes. You can bring your own soap or buy little boxes in the laundry room. St. Michael's Laundry service is also available for those who prefer not to do laundry. They collect the laundry and will deliver it to the dorm for a fee; more information can be found at laundry.nd.edu. The service is good for jeans, t-shirts, sheets, and towels, but you might just want to wash your best clothes yourself. St. Michael's also has a dry cleaning service, which is great for formals, or when you just don't feel like ironing yourself.
Workout Facility: While there is not as much equipment as you will find at Duncan or the Rock, Farley has a workout space in the basement with weights, treadmills, and elliptical machines that is convenient for busy days when you don't want to spend time trekking across campus to other facilities.
