Another thing you'll learn quickly about ND is that we love tradition and our traditions; here are some of the ND-wide traditions that the beautiful women of Farley hall love. Football: There's nothing quite like a Notre Dame Football weekend! The campus is packed with alumni, families, and fans, not to mention ESPN! You'll surely see why these weekends are the second largest tourist attraction in Indiana behind only the Indy 500. To add to this festive atmosphere, be sure to attend our Pep Rallies on Friday nights! Then for the first time, you can proudly take your place in the student section of Notre Dame Stadium, and yell at the top of your lungs...GO IRISH!!! Everyone wears "The Shirt," the official game-day garb that benefits student organizations and can be purchased at the bookstore for $18. You'll also want to wear comfy shoes because we stand the entire game. New students are sent information about how to get their football booklet during the first week of classes.
Basketball: Football season is over and winter in South Bend has hit. You think the fun is over until next year? Guess again! Irish Hoop Hysteria has the Joyce (JACC) alive with spirit. Come cheer the Irish to victory over schools like UCLA and North Carolina. Look out March Madness...Here come the Irish!
Bengal Bouts: Don't have the time or money to catch a World Championship fight? ND can solve your problem with Bengal Bouts. This charity boxing tournament, held each year is an exciting event for students and the South Bend community. The next world champion could be a Domer!
JPW: aka Junior Parent's Weekend, is the big event of junior year. This weekend is a great time for the rest of campus to take a road trip and for juniors and their parents to dance the weekend away. Just another event to look forward to during your four years at Notre Dame!
BCAF: The Black Cultural Arts Festival is held every spring to celebrate diversity on campus. Famous for its fashion show!
Antostal: The spring festival to end all spring festivals. Thought the days of recess and playground were behind you? WRONG! Free pre-final exams celebrations on campus.
Fisher Regatta: No, it is not the American's Cup, but it is exciting anyway. Fisher Hall hosts the annual event on beautiful St. Mary's Lake. Each dorm may enter a boat, but there is one restriction: it must be built entirely by the dorm. Competition thrives as rival dorms compete for glory in the categories of speed and creativity.
Keenan Revue: First performed in 1976, the Revue is the most popular dorm event of the spring semester. A comedy/variety show produced, directed, and performed by residents of Keenan Hall, just about every notorious person, place, or event on campus becomes the target of their parodies. Tickets are free, but expect to wait in line, they go quickly!
Dillon Pep Rally: The night before a big football game, Dillon Hall hosts a pep rally where they bring a lot of spirit to get the campus ready for another win. A well-attended event!
Fight Song: We'll teach it to you during Welcome Weekend, but it doesn't hurt to practice the greatest fight song in all the land!
Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame, Wake up the echoes cheering her name, Send a volley cheer on high, Shake down the thunder from the sky. What though the odds be great or small, Old Notre Dame will win over all, While her loyal sons are marching Onward to victory!
The Alma Mater: Another important and dear tradition. Here are the words to practice:
Notre Dame, Our Mother, tender, strong, and true, Proudly in the heavens, gleams thy Gold and Blue. Glory's Mantle cloaks thee, Golden is thy fame, And our hearts forever praise thee, Notre Dame. And our hearts forever love thee, Notre Dame.
